The images below are photographs of the Surma and Mursi tribes from southern Ethiopia, photographed by German artist Hans Silvester.




I selected the image on the left, firstly because of the pattern created on the child's face, I love how it appears to have been scratched off, also creating a strong contrast of colour, with the white from the mineral paint (which is the material used) and the warm dark tones of the young boys skin. Secondly is the fabulous head piece, created from what look likes bone and feathers, almost creating an exotic bird look.

    You need to examine the process of painting on the body in your own time too. Begin to have these images included also.
